You may think that writing is such an easy job and that all you have to do is write a story, easy peasy lemon squeezy. But you're wrong! Writing is a lot more than just putting down words on a paper. Once you start writing you can't stop, the ideas just keep flowing. There is a whole process to writing a book. First you have to come up with the idea, write it, rewrite it many times, edit it many times, and then when it is perfect(or as perfect as it will be) you have to publish it. See how long and hard this process is and writing a book and publishing it doesn't take a month. It takes several months to write the book and then a while to publish it too. On average it takes about a year to write and publish a book. Now that you've heard my opinion on the job of a writer now lets see the cold, hard facts.
Usually writers like to write books in one genre but some writers have actually written books that fall into several types of genres which are called cross genre novels. (Bet you didn't know that before) As you know all novels start with an idea and, obviously, the writer comes up with the idea. I think thatcoming up with the idea is the hardest part because many writer's have writer's block that lasts a long time, several months even. A novelist can get an idea from anywhere but typically their novel is about something they already know about or have experianced. After the author gets the idea they either make the outline or they just "wing it" which means they don't have a plan, they just go with the flow. Writers never worry about samll mistakes like grammar or spelling mistakes-that is usually fixed during the editing and rewriting processes-, they just write whatever comes to their mind however they want to. Like I said before the author usually has to rewrite their novel several times-at least once- before they can get a polished, published copy . And unless the story stinks out loud-then it would probably never make it past the editing process- the book usuallu gets published.
