Writing in the past was a lot different form writing now. When the Mesopotamians, otherwise known as the Sumerians, scratched out a few book-keeping symbols 5,000 years ago and started a new era of history without
even knowing it. The first examples of writing was pictograms used in temples and it is very important because it was one of the first parts of the history of writing. After the Mesopotamians in 3000 B.C. it was the Egyptians and then in 1500 B.C. in China people were scribbling, scratching, and telling the world about themselves and their culture in a way that was very permanent and was there to stay. Not so long ago around 200 years ago, the University of Iowa's Writers Workshop was the first creative writing program in the United States and was model for contemporary writing program. Verse-Making was the first creative writing class and was offered in the spring semester of 1897.In 1992 the dean of the Graduate College, Carl Seashore, introduced a new model for the academic study of the arts when announcing that the University of Iowa would accept creative writing as thesis for advanced degrees. The workshop began in 1936 when a gathering a poets and fictional writers came together with Wilbur Schraam and one of the first students to receive M.A. in creative writing was Paul Engle who later became the director of the Workshop in 1941 and held that position for 25 years until 1976.

Writing right now is a lot different from writing in the past because a lot of things and aspects of it has changed dramatically and it has gotten more complicated and more fancy over time and now you see people typing on computers instead of using the old-fashioned ink and pen duo or, if they are lucky, using a typewriter. Not only has the process and the way we do writing has changed nut so is how we see writing and our interest in it and the purpose that we do it now because that has definitely changed. The Mesopotamians used it to write a few book-keeping symbols so tat they could remember some things but now the author's purpose has many different possibilities like to entertain, persuade, or inform the reader. So basically writing has changed a lot from 1,000 years ago. And I mean a lot!

The future of writing depends a lot on your opinion so people's ideas of writing in the future may be different but that is okay because you don't have to agree since this is your opinion. The author of the source from where I got this information from, Vilem Flusser, proposes that writing will not have a future because everything that as of now is conveyed in writing, plus a lot that can't, can be recorded and transmitted in other means. Now the next information that I am about to present is from a different source and they have a slightly different source. They think that the nature of writing profession has changed because of the Web (the Internet) and the Internet and Web have also changed a writer's role in society and the world. The author of this same article that I am currently talking about thinks that writing will become very electronic and many and most of the components of the writing process will use technology and that overall writing will become more advanced and will be more like typing kind of stories because much of it will be done online and on the computer. That is a few people's opinion son the future of writing.
